In his 11th overall season as play-by-play voice of the Spartan men’s basketball team, veteran announcer Will Tieman anchors Spartan Network coverage that is distributed across the 40 station Spartan Sports Network. He began his play-by-play career in 1970 as the voice of Miami (OH) University. His career has spanned radio and television including the Big Ten Basketball “Game of the Week”. He has served as a television sports director and hosted numerous syndicated radio series, including the regionally syndicated “This Week in College Basketball” and “The College Basketball Hour” on Sporting News Radio Network. During the season, Tieman hosts a daily three-minute radio series “Time Out with Tom Izzo” featuring a one-on-one interview with MSU head men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo.

He also returns for his 10th year on the Spartan football broadcast team, serving as broadcast host. During home games at Spartan Stadium, Tieman broadcasts for the Spartan Network’s on-field set located in the North endzone. Tieman’s other football-related activities include hosting the daily statewide series “In the Huddle with Mark Dantonio" and hosting the syndicated “This Week in College Football series, now in its 18th season. He has handled play-by-play duties for the national broadcasts of the Citrus Bowl, Blue-Gray All Star Classic, Motor City Bowl and International Bowl. He served as the lead announcer for legendary Coach Eddie Robinson and the Grambling State University National Radio Network (1990-92). Will Tieman was honored with “Best Network Play-by-Play” for his work on the 2007 Motor City Bowl from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

Providing commentary for the Spartan Sports Network is the venerable Gus Ganakas. Ganakas is no stranger to MSU basketball fans, having retired in 2000 after 36 years of service to the University. Gus was the head coach of the Spartan program form 1969-70 though 1975-76 after serving as an assistant under John Benington. From 1976-98, he served as assistant athletics director. From 1998-2000, Ganakas served as a special assistant to head coach Tom Izzo, directing the activities surrounding MSU Basketball’s Centennial in 1998-99.

Former Spartan forward and Michigan High School Mr. Basketball Matt Steigenga rounds out the broadcast crew.  Steigenga was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1992 following a successful career as a 6'7" power forward for MSU.  He was signed late in the 1996-97 season when the Bulls needed to fill an injury-depleted roster. He appeared in two NBA games playing a total of 12 minutes and scoring three points.  His lone career field goal came on an alley-oop dunk against the Toronto Raptors at the United Center. He again signed with the Bulls in January 1999 but was put on waivers a few weeks later without appearing in any games. Steigenga was awarded an NBA championship ring as the Bulls, led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, won the 1997 NBA Championship.  As a collegian, Steigenga started his final three years at Michigan State University, averaging 10.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg in his four years. He finished the Spartans 11th all-time leading scorer and currently stands 17th with 1,296 career points. He was the school's leading career shot blocker with 97 until 2008 when Drew Naymick surpassed this total. The Jud Heathcote coached Spartans won the 1990 Big Ten championship. As a high schooler, Steigenga starred for South Christian High School, leading them to the 1988 Michigan Class B title while being named Mr. Basketball of Michigan.
