DeVries Power Rankings, 10/15

With what some would say was a predictable outcome between the top two teams in the league last week, and other challengers taking care of business in their matchups, the DPR remains relatively unchanged as we head into Week 8.

Lapeer showed why they are a Top 15 team in the entire state of Michigan last Friday when they marched into Midland Community Stadium and handled the Chemics in every facet of the game en route to a convincing 49-21 victory. Mike Marston had a career night behind the stout Lightning offensive line.

Lapeer closes out the regular season with a visit from Carman-Ainsworth this week and a road matchup against Davison in the Week 9. Both could potentially be tricky games, especially if some players begin to look towards the playoffs too soon. But, judging by the attitude and demeanor of the coaching staff and players last week, don’t count on. The Lightning should finish the regular season undefeated. As for Midland, is wasn’t for the want of trying.

A valiant effort came from the Chemic sideline, there was just such a size difference that ESPN 100.9-FM broadcaster Chris Vosters said at one point, “It looks like Midland is playing with eight linebackers on defense.” That’s nothing against the ability of those players, it was just fairly evident that Lapeer was going to have their way against them in the trenches.

Dow executed a 41-28 win against Davison, Powers Catholic shut out Southwestern 36-0 and Mt. Pleasant was tested early against Saginaw early, but prevailed 49-20. They remain cemented in their spots in the DPR.

Carman-Ainsworth produced a shutout against an injury-depleted Bay City Central squad which pushed them ahead of the Cardinals. Bay City Western’s high-scoring affair which saw them score a season-high 46 points in their win over Heritage, also saw them jump two spots.
