Scottie Scheffler dominated his competition to claim the British Open on Sunday. The top-ranked golfer entered the day with a four-shot lead and pushed it to seven at one point en route to his four-shot victory at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
Scheffler, golf’s No. 1 player, finished at 17-under 267 to win his second major this year and grab the third leg of the career Grand Slam.
The win on Sunday, which earned Scheffler the iconic Claret Jug and a $3.1 million prize, marked Scheffler’s first at the British Open. He’s now won four major championships in his career, and is now just one U.S. Open victory away from becoming the seventh golfer in history to complete the career grand slam.
Harris English finished in second at 13-under on the week, with Chris Gotterup coming in third at 12-under. Rory McIlroy ended up posting a 2-under 69 on Sunday in his home country.
